The gorgeous fall weather here in Virginia is helping keep me in the artist mood. I have been taking a wonderful painting class through the Beverley Street Studio School in Stauntong, VA, last spring, and again this fall. We meet once a week, and paint “plein air”, which just means we paint outdoors. Our fearless leader is Ron Boehmer, who is a wonderful teacher, who pushes all of us to do our best, and grow as artists.
I am going to post at least one painting that I do in the class each week. Maybe more! Usually, we meet at wonderful farms around the area, and paint all day. So that usually means that we have to work on either small studies all day, or at least two paintings, to work with the morning, and afternoon light. It also means dealing with the sun, bugs, wind (Swoope is certainly a very windy area!), bugs ON the paintings, wind blowing easels over, etc. But such a great experience.
