As an Associate member of the American Academy of Equine Art, I am able to participate in their mentorship program. I was quite excited about the prospect of talking to someone who is a Full member, who could help me with various painting questions and concerns.

Through I was told to make a list of three artists who I would like to mentor under. I was given Carol Peek, a wonderful oil painter, who use of light attracted me at once. I too love to use light to say something in my paintings. Carol’s work certainly does that. We talked briefly on the phone once, and have started a once a month email correspondence. I send her a jpg image of something I am working on, and she writes back some suggestions and comments.

A live person is always the best, but the computer has opened a whole new way of communicating with fellow artists. By being abel to send a picture of a painting, it allows the other person to see your work very quickly. Although all monitors are not made alike, it at least gives a fair representation of the painted image.

The last image I sent Carol was one for a submission for the Montpelier Hunt Races. See above. Still working on them!
